Happiness….

Everyday we read articles about tragic events that have happened somewhere in the world and sometimes in our own neighborhoods. We lose family members, friends, jobs, and relationships. Unfortunately, these are realities of life. I often hear so many people say that they “just want to be happy.” I’m guilty of that very statement myself, even though I know the truth.

The truth is happiness truly resides within you. Happiness is a state of mind. Even when we’re going through events that cause our emotions to flare like the nose of an angry bull, we ultimately come to some point where we make a decision to no longer allow ourselves to be depressed or sad. At the very least we get better with living each day with what may be causing us pain and anguish. Of course the time frame depends on the extent of the tragedy.

We often seek counsel from our friends, loved ones, and the church when we are trying to cope and go on a journey to find happiness. Many people seem to push their troubles behind them by pretending that they don’t exist, until one day the smallest thing happens and all of a sudden a melt down occurs.

How often do we seek professional help from a counselor, therapist, or a psychiatrist? African Americans tend to steer away from the very notion. Many of us have lots of distrust involving opening up to strangers, and for some reason we seem to think we are above therapy and have a fear of being labeled as unstable or crazy.

You are not crazy. You are human, and mental health is very important. Your mind determines how the rest of your body will function. If you truly desire happiness, look within and make a decision to be happy. Surround yourself with happy people. Involve yourself in activities that you love that will increase your happiness. Most importantly- recognize that YOU control you! Things in your life could always be much worse. It seems to always be easier to be negative, but think of all of the joys of being positive.

Search within your soul and there is where you will find true happiness…..

  1. Love this! This is so true. No longer should you surround yourself, with people or things to make you happy. YOU control your content for life. It’s unfair to put that much pressure on someone else. Do what’s best for you and only you

    1. Thank you Auntie. I am living and learning! I really am. I’m also happy! Thank you for visiting my site. Be sure to check out my other post.

  2. I really like that you put “even though I know the truth” because I find myself struggling with that as well. Happiness, fear, etc. I know I control my happiness, I know failure isn’t permanent, yet I’m still fearful. And I appreciate that you touched on mental illness as it pertains to melanated people. We tend to think that it’s a “white” thing, truth be told, we could use some help figuring out and getting to the root of some of these problems, assessing them and seeing how we could do and be better. I’m going to send you a link to a video about Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome and tell me what you think, I think that some stuff has been passed down that we haven’t dealt with or know how to deal with which may explain lots of these issues we have.

    1. Thank you for continuously supporting my blog by reading it and commenting. Your in put is very important to me. I really appreciate you. Thanks for the link.
