Todays Black Activist!

It’s no secret that Black people in America have had a tremulous relationship with the Government and “Authority” figures altogether. From being beaten for speaking our native languages, being stripped from our original cultures and religions, to Black women being raped by slave masters to produce more slaves and separating us from our family and children, we have constantly been under attack and hunted by slave catchers- which now translates to the police.

Mind your stimmy

Around this time last year we all were concerned about our health, safety and livelihood. Companies were laying off employees or cutting people hours drastically. Some were fortunate, so it seemed, to be able to work from home until further notice. Schools, childcare and eldercare centers were also closing until further notice, which also caused people to have to walk away from their jobs to care for their children or parents. This is only a snapshot of an exhaustive list that left many Americans wondering how they were going to live and pay their bills. Then real panic set in… tissue, lysol, soap and alcohol were all out-of-stock; along with bread and meat . We seemed to be on  the brink of food scarcity! The supply and demand equation suddenly was tested as more and more of the workforce was in limbo with if their job was secured or not!

No Time

Generally Speaking

It’s that time of year again! Another year is ending and a new year awaits us. I’m always excited about the New Year. It just feels like a fresh start on life. Not to mention it’s a great time to reflect on past events of your life, and plan out new territory you want to conquer in the future. It’s a time to make changes and free yourself of burdens if need be. Some of us do those things daily, but many of us don’t!

So what have we learned this year?!

Lessons of 2019

  1. Some men can’t handle being your friend once they realize the connection you had no longer exist. Which means their love was conditional. As long as they were able to control the narrative of the relationship and dictate what happens everything is great. But, the minute you move on and accept them as a past experience you become the devil. That’s not love or friendship it’s simply an unhealthy male ego!
  2. Some friends you can talk to about anything. Then there are some friends that you have to select what you can share with them. All friends aren’t good listeners because they can’t hear anything beyond their own perspective or reality.
  3. Some friends are in a secret competition with you, which means you already won. But, you have to realize that friendships of that magnitude are limited. Is that really even a friend?
  4. Love has no time frame, so don’t try to talk yourself out of loving someone because you think it hasn’t been enough time. When you know you know.
  5. You have to be okay with not being considered, invited, or included. It’s life and you can only expect people to be who they are, and not who you are or who you want them to be.

Eye Opener as we bring this year to a close

If you are a regular Let’s Talk Rae Style reader you know I write a lot about dating and relationships. I’m here to tell you that everything I thought I knew has been altered for the better when it comes to love, dating, and relationships! In the spiritual world time is fluid. I’m now a believer that in our current dimension when it comes to love time is fluid as well. We waste so much time trying to hide our true feelings because we don’t want to be hurt. Not realizing that displaying your feelings, dare I say being vulnerable is the only way to experience love in its purest form.

If a man or woman gives you the feels and you start to question yourself! Do yourself a favor, DON’T! Don’t question it just go with the feeling. Allow that person to love on you, support you emotionally, treat you well, pamper you, and whatever else you desire from a partner. It doesn’t matter if the relationship ends abruptly or has longevity. What matters is how you felt within that experience. Did you enjoy how you were treated and the time you spent together? Those are the events that you should be concerned with. We don’t possess people we experience them. Accept the love and don’t concern yourself with the timing. Answer when love calls..

Your life is your story. You’re the star and you have the right to demote and promote as you see fit to enhance your story! Make moves that accommodate you! There is simply NO TIME for anything else. I hope you all have a happy and prosperous New Year!

Cheers!

Colorism and nappy hair

GOOD AND BAD HAIR VIDEO CLIP FullSizeRender

COLORISM IS STILL A THING! Unfortunately we have Black celebrities making negative comments about the richness of chocolate skin! We have to hold everyone accountable. It’s a hard lesson on thinking before you speak. Not to mention that it is extremely important to dig deep and educate oneself on why a person has those types of feelings. Eva of #RHOA constantly makes distasteful comments about skin color and hair texture. Then she back pedals when called out on her nonsense! Continue reading “Colorism and nappy hair”

Female Rap

Last week I posted a video (Video is below) discussing how multiple female rappers are currently out, and releasing music. We haven’t had so many female rappers out at the same time since the 90s. In the video I forgot a lot of names of female rappers in the game right now. So, first I’d like to redefine the list of female rappers with current music in rotation. Continue reading “Female Rap”

Thank U, Next: End of year reflection

2018 has been a year of loss, endings, and feelings of perplexity. You know that feeling when you are in a state of the unknown? When you know everything is changing around you but you don’t know what the end result will be and if you’ll mentally and emotionally survive… That was how I felt. I had to remind myself that the Universe is always working in my favor regardless if I can see or feel what’s happening. Having a friend die unexpectedly helped put some things in perspective for me. Death has a funny way of making you reevaluate your feelings, life, and your relationships. Continue reading “Thank U, Next: End of year reflection”

I’ll take yo MAN!

If you haven’t heard the female rap group duo City Girls remake of Salt and Pepper’s hit I’ll take your man,” you may want to check it out. It’s been played all over the radio and in night clubs. The City Girls album is full of raunchy lyrics following in the footsteps of other female rappers with Miami slang. Recently The group has been under a lot of scrutiny due to group member JT being locked up for previous charges of fraud, but the worst critiques have been based on group member Yung Miami’s speech (Yet y’all calling people that commit fraud to get y’all Christmas gifts). Miami first shocked the world when she asked if people wanted to get “flewed out” instead of flown out. There were so many comments and retweets making fun of the new rapper, she made a rebuttal. This week she’s being criticized for mispronouncing a city’s name in Michigan.

People have been verbally attacking Miami. Calling her dumb an idiot and everything in between. You don’t have to agree with the rappers lyrics, like their speech or like their truths. But what everyone should be doing is respecting the fact that they come from streets of Miami and are actively trying to improve their quality of life. What really bothers me the most is that I personally don’t believe they would receive such backlash if they weren’t Black women. Continue reading “I’ll take yo MAN!”

Terrorist Attacks and facts

Photo of hate crime and terrorist attack victim Maurice Stallard.

Terrorist Gregory Bush took the lives of two Black senior citizens Maurice Stallard (69) and Vickie Lee Jones (67)on October 25th, 2018 in Louisville, KY. Bush (the terrorist) walked into a Kroger and shot Maurice Stallard right in front of his 12 year old grandson. He then exited the Kroger and saw Vickie Lee Jones in the parking lot and shot and killed her as well. Two lives taken away all because he couldn’t gain access to First Baptist church of Jeffersontown. Continue reading “Terrorist Attacks and facts”

All little Black girls know the importance of getting their hair done..

All little Black girls know the importance of getting their hair done. It has to be styled ever so correctly, or they run the risk of being teased in school and online. Other parents will say things like “Her Mother should be ashamed of herself for not doing her hair!” What is considered doing a little girls hair? Kids will call them ugly, nappy head, etc. Most people find that braids, ponytails (with straightened hair), or in a wrap. Just think about the comments made about Blue Ivy’s hair. This pressure of what your hair has to look like increases tremendously as an adult with different trends and styles being deemed appropriate. It’s constant hair buying, weaving, pulling, braiding, dying, perming, pressing, washing, blow drying, sewing and REPEAT!
